Serendipity!
Well, we’re on the road again, but I feel like I should finish this opus so that you, faithful reader, won’t feel ignored.
When we last left our heroes, it was the dawn of a new year, Jan 1, 2009.
We woke semi-early, as we had decided to go back down to Wicker Park for Cooper and Sater’s sake. As navigator (we had assigned everyone faux positions as if our crew was some sort of see-faring vessel’s crew), Cooper said that the quickest route was to walk to the blue line, and just hop on it at Division St. and fly to the appropriate stop. As it would turn out, SOMETHING must have gone wrong in those seemingly flawless calculations, because Jackie and Kevin live nowhere near a blue line stop. We ended up wandering semi aimlessly, asking old Polish women for directions. We eventually decided to head back, and on the way found this great little diner whose food was incredible. Every working there seemed so happy to actually have a reason for being open that day.
After lunch, Gerber and Joe decided to head back to base camp to work on homework, while the rest of us ventured to Wicker Park. We went back to Myopic Books and I got a bunch as presents for people. That place is truly amazing.
Sater then had to go to lunch with his grandma, and Cooper wanted to buy a jacket, so we headed down to Macy’s downtown. It was a ghost town. We wandered aroudn for blocks, unable to find a single store open. We finally found stores were open near Millenium Park, and Taylor and I want to explore it instead of shopping. Then there were two. We watched people ice skate at this outdoor skate rink. It was great.
Kevin called, having got off of work, and we met up with him. We went to Macy’s and Cooper was taking forever to make a choice. We finally went back to the house after trying hopelessly to go to this place called Wow Bow, which apparently might sell Cho Pow (Phil Reid’s mystical pork buns).
